Indian Trail, NC
Indian Trail Homes for Sale: An Honest Area Guide
Direct answer
Indian Trail is an incorporated town of about 44,300 in northwestern Union County, southeast of Charlotte along US 74 and the Monroe Expressway. It's mostly newer single-family subdivisions with steady new construction and a low town tax rate. It's also one of the region's most competitive markets on price: in September 2026, sellers received 98.4 percent of their original list price, at a median of $450,000 ($459,000 year to date), per Canopy MLS. What buyers miss: the 28079 ZIP includes other municipalities and unincorporated land, and the fastest route toward Monroe is a toll road.

What most buyers get wrong about Indian Trail
The mailing city doesn't equal the town. 28079 includes the separate Village of Lake Park and unincorporated land, and some Indian Trail parcels carry a Matthews 28104 or 28105 address. Stallings homes can use either. Check the tax bill or Union County GIS.
A few addresses are in Mecklenburg County. Near the county line, a Matthews or Stallings mailing address can mean Mecklenburg taxes and CMS schools instead of Union County.
The Monroe Expressway is a toll road. It's US 74 Bypass, with all-electronic tolling, and bill-by-mail costs double. Many drivers use free US 74 instead, which is slower with signals through Indian Trail and Matthews.
US 74 into Charlotte is the daily bottleneck. Peak drives to Uptown can run twice as long as off-peak, with Independence Boulevard through Matthews the slowest stretch.
Sellers hold their price here. With 2.6 months of inventory and sellers receiving 98.4 percent of original list price in September 2026, buyers here need a pre-approval and an offer strategy ready before touring.
