The written answer

Six corridors carry most of this metro’s congestion: I-77 north, I-77 at the state line, US-74 east, NC-16 and Providence Road into Union County, US-521 through Indian Land, and NC-51 across the south. Mapping estimates average across the day and understate peak conditions, and the gap is widest on Providence Road. The reliable test is to drive from the specific street — not the subdivision entrance — to your actual workplace, at your actual hour, in both directions, twice, in a normal week. Outside the LYNX Blue Line corridor the region is car-dependent, and most households need two cars.
